5. Besides a pension or superannuation allowance, a free passage home or a bonus equal to 3 months' pay is given as a matter of right to all Inspectors, Sergeants or Constables after each period of five years' service. If they re-enlist, they receive the bonus; if they do not re-enlist, a passage may either be provided to the place where they were engaged or the 3 months' pay may be given instead as a bonus.
The following amounts have been paid during the period before referred to for bonus and gratuities. The latter term is applied to payments made under special cir- cumstances to persons who retired before they were qualified for pensions. It is difficult to separate these two items, but the gratuities do not amount to much :---
