HONGKONG, NOVEMBER 16TH, 1882.

FOOCHOW,

Cholera is rife in the Chinese quarters sud many lives are said to have been lost through ¦ this epidemic.

We note that the ship called the Gustur & Marie is no longer a German barque aud that Captain Bubraoh is no longer her master. She has been condemned by the surveyors and was sold in public suction. The present owners are Megars, Kaw Hong Take & Co.

A fire broke out at Shai-po-men, close to the East Gate, on the night of the 4th instant, at 1 o'clock, when 120 houses were burnt down. On the morning of the 5th another fire broke out at the South Gate, where about 200 houses were burnt down. The latter fire originated through the carelessness of the cook, and 5 lives were lost, Loss in both cases is estimated at about $120,000.-Herald.
