officers employed were for some time remunerated by the fees appertaining to the res- pective offices filled by thein in addition to their salaries as Officers of the Supreme

Court.

In 1860, Ordinance 8 of 1860 was passed relating to the grant and revocation of probates and Letters of Administration.

In 1862, a Court of Summary Jurisdiction was established having jurisdiction up

to $500.

In 1864, the Bankruptcy Ordinance was passed, and under that Ordinance the Registrar of the Supreme Court was appointed Official Assignee.

In 1864, the Registrar was also required to register Bills of Sale.

In 1865, the Companies Ordinance was passed, providing for the Registration of Joint Stock Companies and for the appointment of an Official Liquidator under certain

circumstances.

By Ordinance 9 of 1870, it was declared that the Registrar was ex officio Official Administrator under Ordinance No. 8 of 1860, and he was thereby in certain cases authorized to issue Commissions of appraisement.

By Ordinance 14 of 1873, the Court of Summary Jurisdiction was abolished and Summary Jurisdiction was given to the Supreme Court to the extent of $1,000.

Immediately prior to the abolition of the Court of Summary Jurisdiction the staff of the Supreme Court and Summary Jurisdiction Court leaving out Interpreters, Mes- sengers, &c., was as follows with the following salaries :-

(It will be noticed that the Deputy Registrar had been retained in the Supreme Court, and a Clerk of Court added notwithstanding the fact that no salary was provided for any future Deputy Registrar by the Civil List.)
