Mr. Chan Yau Yiu
Mr. Chan Yau Yiu, (陳友耀)was born in the Chung-shan District, Kwang-tung Pro- vince, thirty-nine years ago. He came to the Colony in 1920 and entered the piece goods business. His good nature and ability soon made him well-known in the commercial circle. He founded the Hung Fat Piece Goods Co., in 1928, and the Sun Wah Co., and Chung Wah Co., in' succession, ail of which were under his management ever since.
Mr. Chan is zealous to public welfare and patriotic to his country. Since the out-break of China's Resistant War he had contributed large sum of money to the War chest and relief
works.
He was Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Piece Goods Guild, 1938-1939. Presently, he serves as Chairman of the Chinese Piece Goods Guild, Martager of the Chung Shan Commercial Association, Chairman of the Loong Du Club and important posts of many other associations.

Mr. Chan Chung Chee, (陳仲池)born in Chung Shan District, Kwangtung ance and possesses the ambitious mind. When he was young he studied in the Nam Jun Chinese Literature Institute and he set up a brilliant school career. He came to Hongkong establishing an Imports and Exports firm. He did his own business very well within a few years. He treats his friends with the courtesy and benignancy and his manner is always as gently as a scholar. In recent years, he has accomplished the philanthropic affairs of society with his most strength.

Since the Loo Kau Bridge War broke on seventh day of July, 1937, Mr. Chan, obeying the decree of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, which says that all people of rich or poor rank alike should offer the money or the strength; according to their circumstances. As to the country, he contributed a large sum of money for the relief of refugees. When the sale of Chinese National Salvation bonds began in Hongkong, Mr. Chan offered great assistance to promote sales to more than one million dollars in a few days.
Mr. Chan is always with the eagerness and honesty to the advantages of his own line of Importing and Exporting business. When he was manager of the Po Yick Commercial Association, the general centre of Importing foreign goods in Hongkong he contributed largely to the running of the Association.
Mr. Chan is always zealous in charitable works and public affairs. He established in his own village, Nam
Jun, the "Hi Keat" Hospital, for poor patients, and "cemetry's House" in the village.
Mr. Chan Chung Chee, fifty-one years of age, is the manager of Wing On Co.; manager of the Chung Shan Commercial Association; and Member of Committee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. He had been president of the Nam Jun Chamber of Commerce, Hongkong.

Mr. Cheng Sui Sang
Mr. Cheng Sui Sang, 一鄭瑞生一aged 57, Native of Chung
Shan District, was graduated from the Canton Medical School.
In 1917 he served as Medical Officer in the Tiger For Head- quarter; in 1920 served as chief Medical officer of 27th Volunteer Corp and retired from official service in 1922. He returned to Hongkong and began private practice.
Mr. Cheng was a certified doctor both in Shanhai and in the concession and had been Chairman of the Chinese Doctors Association. He was elected as honorable Member of the com Imittee of the National Medical Association, Hongkong Branch.

Mr. Lee Sheu Kai,(李少) a native of Nam-Hoi District, Kwangtung Province, is 58 years of age. He came to Hongkong at the age of 18 and started his business career. He entered the leather trade more than 30 years, ago.
Mr. Lee established the Wo Kee Tannery and Kwong Yek Cheung Import and Export Company. He is the manager of these two companies and vice-manager of Yuet Hing Hong. Besides his business career, Mr. Lee is very active in social affairs. He promoted and crganized the Chinese Factory Association, of which he is one of its directors. He is Com-

Poi Suen,(霍佩蓀) son of the late Mr. Fock Hon Ping,
prominent merchant
of the Colony, was born in the Shun-tak District, Kwangtung Province, forty-two years ago. He was very intelligent when young. He went into business when he was only seventeen. He established the Tak Lee Metal Dealers Shop which turned out to be the leading firm of the metal business in Hongkong.
He founded the New and Old Metal Dealers Association in 1931, and was elected the first Vice-Chairman of the Association. He held important posts such as manager and chairman
of the association for many times.
Since the Chinese Anti-Aggression War began he has donated large sums to the War Relief Works and promoted sales of Chinese National Salvation Bonds. His charitable acts has set good examples to local business men.
He married happily, and has three sons and two daughters whom Mr. Fock always teaches them to be patriotic and become good citizens.

Mr. Fan Ding Sun
Mr. Fan Ding Sun, (范鼎新) was born in the Man Cheong District, Kwangtung Province
in 1900. At twenty-two, he was graduated from the Sun Yat-sen University, Canton, with the Bachelor of Agriculture degree. He set sail for the Malay Peninsula making himself well- known in the journalistic circle. On return to China he served the Government holding various civil and military posts. He had done a memorable work for the development of the Hainan Island while he was Harbour Master of Hainan.
He retired from office in 1934. With the aim of developing industries, he set up large sugarcane plantation, sugar refining work, and tobacco manufactory in Canton. Through his effort thousands of unemployed were relieved. The fall of Canton caused him a great loss, but he was never defeated, he came to the New Territory, Kowloon, and set up his farms.
For his ability and zeal in public affairs, he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Chamber
of Commerce, Tsun Wan, New Territory.
He has a happy family of a wife and several Children.

Chung Shan, (錘仲山) aged 55, belongs to the At his early age he proceeded to Cuba and set up a prosperious commercial career. On return to the mother country after eight years abroad, he contributed largely to the construction of his native land and promotion of public education.
Finding that it was still too early for him to retire, he set sail for Cuba again. There he joined the Chinese Revolutionary party and had been elected Member of the Executive Com- mittee, Cuba Branch of the party.
When the Republic of China was formed, he retired from all activities and settled in Hongkong. At that time, the Hongkong and Kowloon municipalities were under construction, and Mr. Chung had no hesitation to establish the Jip Sang Co., carrying out many building
contracts.
Mr. Chung was the Chairman of the Sing Fat Contractor's Association, Hon. Councilor of the Committee for Overseas Affair; member of the Committee of Sung Ching Association and Chak-kai Chamber of Commerce; Director of the South China Middle School; Man Far Middle School and Kan Nam Middle School. Presently he serves the Tung Wah Hospital as Director. He spends most of his spare time for public welfare.

Mr. Tam Kit
Mr. Tam Kit Sang Sang, (譚傑生) of Suntak District, Kwangtung Province, aged 66 is the proprietor of Koong Yick Chili Sauce Co. He founded the new process of manufacturing Chili Sauce. During the time of the Ching dynasty his products had already met with immediate success. The company also produces first class curry powder and other condiments. In several exhibitions his products were highly commented and he received several awards. In 1924 he sent his products to the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley, and received several medals. In 1929 he received a certificate of merit cognition from President Lin Sen and Mr. Sit Tuk- pat, Minister of Public Health, of the Central Government. He is a very arduous and energe- tic person and philanthropic in nature. To the poor he is very generous and is very well respected among them. He has been Chairman of Lok Sin Tong of Kowloon for four successive periods. At the time of amalgamation of Tung Wah Hospital and other hospitals he was appointed Chairman. During the severe flood of the North, East and West Rivers, he became Chairman of the Flood Relief Committee for helping the homeless and his energetic work was
appreciated and remembered by all.

Mr. Shum Ming Hin, (岑明軒) was born in the Shun-tak District, forty-seven years ago. He is the most prominent silk merchant known in South China. In boy- hood he was very clever and studious, interested especially in machinery, chemistry and silk industry. His father, Mr. Shum Dau, who was a merchant in Madagascar, sent for him from abroad, but intending to promote industries in his own country Mr. Shum declined to go, and set up many silk works in his own district. He turned out to be a silk magnate.
He is an amateur photographer. For the sake of himself and his fellow amateurs he establish the A. Sek Co., in Hongkong in 1925, importing cameras and all photographic materials. This firm soon became well-known with its branches in Kowloon and Canton,
Mr. Shum is a good nature man and always willing to support any social affairs. He married Miss Ho Shuk-ying. They have eight children, the elder son master Shum Kai-yau is studying in France while the rest are receiving good education in the Colony.

Mr. Tang Yu Kung,(鄧羽公) belongs to the Nam-hoi District, Kwangtung Province: but settled in Fat-shan for generations. He is the most wonderful journalist ever known. Though he was born in a family of scholars, he went to school for only three years and his learning was built up by self-studying while he was a probationer in a medicine shop.
He entered the journalistic circle at his early age, organizing and publishing many newspapers in Macao. He joined the Revolutionary Army in 1922 as a Lieutenant, and was promoted to Captain Staff Officer when he left, after the Republic was united again.
By appointment of General Chiang Kwong Nai and General Choy Ting Kai of the famous 19th Route Army, he and Mr. Yum Tai Yum edited the "Tai Chung Yat Po" in Hong Kong with a daily circulation of forty thousands, making a new record in the local journalistic
history.
Presently, he is the Chief Editor of the "Shek San Yat Po".

Fung, (陳金煌) a native of Ying-Chun, Fukien, is the descendant of
that sturdy farmer stock, of which Ying-Chun is famous. His father Chen Yun Kern ven- tured early to the South Seas for financial elevation. In his new abode he was confronted by strange semi-civilized natives, with murderous habit and distrust for strangers. The strong man of Ying-Chun, however braved every obstacle by trading among those hostile and danger- ous tribes. His strength of character and love for fair play finally won their confidance, thus the tide of fortune turned to his favour.

Twelve years before the Chinese Republic the well known firm of Tae Hing & Co., was Mr. Chen Chin Fung was born in Amboina-being brought up among the South Sea Islanders and inheriting his ancestors' hardihood is of firy disposition. He came back to his Fatherland for his studies.
In the 21st Year of the Chinese Republic he graduated from the
Chi-Nan University, in Shanghai and proceeded to Tokyo for the further study of Literature

After three years' close study in the Tokyo University he graduated with honours. Returning to Shanghai he plunched himself into the literary world by first establishing the "China Star Co." The scope of activities of the company, comprise of print- ing, publishing and general literary works. The unfortunate outbreak of the Sino-Japanese conflict forced him to move southward to Hong Kong. Here, he makes it his centre of literary and commercial operation. With his ambition, capability and personality, success and fame lie literally within his grasp.

He is the son of Mr. Tsang Chun Sang, presently he is General Manager of the South China Leather Goods Manufacturing Co. At an early age he went to Shanghai and studied at the St. John's University. After completing his studies he returned to Hongkong and continued further studies in the preservation of leather and tanning. After having finished his studies in this branch of industry he founded the said factory with very good prospect. His interest in the present Sino-Japanese war has not been lacking and has contributed exten- sively to the war chest and various organisations. Mr. Wong De Fong
Mr. Wong De Fong,(黃笛舫) a native of Nam-hoi District, Kwangtung Province, is
fifty-nine years old. He is a talented merchant being the Chairman of the Tea and Sauce Dealers Association.
He is an honest and trustworthy businessman, receiving warm admira-
tions from all who come in contact with him.
The Kwong Sang Tea Firm and the Mee Jan Sauce Firm are two well-known commer- cial establishments under his management. Besides, he has invested largely in the local Tea-
house and Restaurants and leather business.
In spite of his heavy pre-occupations, these cannot prevent Mr. Wong from social works, he is on the Committees of the Nam-hoi Chamber of Commerce, Tea Merchants Association and Sauce Merchants Association, and he handles all affairs with success. He contributed freely to public institutions of his native land, Sheun Park Village, Nam-hoi District. He con-
tributes large sum for charity yearly.
He is the father of five sons and five daughters. The eldest is a graduate of the Sun
Yat-sen University and the rest are studying in the local Middle Schools.

Mr. S. C. Woo,
of Cheinhai district, Cheikiang Province, is a Prominent Young man of 37 years of age only at
present and is the mamager of the China Products Co., Ltd., Hong Kong.
Mr. Woo is very interested in Native Products and particularily in the exporting of Chinese products to foreign Countries. In Shanghai, he has organized the Chinese Industries for foreign Exporting Trading Association. In 1936 he Organized a good will mission to the South Sea for investigating the foreign markets for Chinese products. A group of more than ten Shanghai manufacturer's representatives composing this mission, and Mr. Woo was the Vice-Chairman. They have Visited Manila, Sorabia, Batavia, singepore Indo-China, Siam etc. and have held Chinese products exposition at each place. They were heartily welcomed by the local offcials and Chinese in each city.
In 1936 just before the depeusive war begun in the north, Mr. Woo was pron.oting a China Products Company at Han- kow. Inspite of various handicaps and hardships from this war, The original planing was still carried on, until December of the same year, a China Products Company was opened there. Because of the fall of the twin cities in Sept. 1938, this com- pany removed to Kwi-Yang and became the foundation for China Products Co., in The South-west.
Such prominent bussinessmen of Hongkong, as Messrs. Yeh Lan-Tun, Doo Yuat-Sang, H. C, Sung, S. C. Chein, P. S. Tai and others have realized that among the one and a half millions of Chinese population in Hongkong, there should be a China Products Co. to sell Natives products. So they have requested Mr. Woo for assisstance and entrusted with him the power to organise the China Products Co. Ltd., which he is now its manager.
Many people have thought that Hongkong is a free port and that Chinese products connot compete with foreign com- modities here. Mr. Woo has proved to them that their line of thinking is somewhat errous and that the of Hongkong is de- lighted to use Native Com nodities by the fact that fils Company for the last two years has sold over two million dollars of

Mr. Kwok is a native of Chungshan District, Kwangtung Province, who is the Founder and Director of the Chun-Shing Institute of Commerce, Hongkong. Having obtained a fair knowledge at his town, he proceeded to Shanghai and continued
his studies in the Ling Nam College, where he stayed until was graduated.
He began his commercial career in a famous business concern in Shanghai. Late in 1928, he had a tour throughout North and South China to investigate education and industry. Realising the depression of trade would soon be spread to the Orient, Mr. Kwok, since that time, had a firm decision to establish an institute of commercial subjects, where pupils may be trained with a technical profession before they start to face the depression.
In 1929, he established the Chun-Shing Institute of Commerce in Hongkong. At the beginning, he was little sympathized by the public and he had but six students. This weak start would have disappointed most people. But Mr. Kwok had the optimistic foresight that he could not fail if he tried hard. So he did, notwithstanding bad circumstances and the handful number of students. In the following year, the number of students increased rapidly and at present the institute is considered to be one of the up-to-date Commercial Institutes in tlie Colony, and its testimonials are well recognised amongst local banking
and business concerns.
Mr. Kwok Chun Shing is also deeply interested in the social affairs and is now holding various positions in different As-
sociations of the Colony.

(E) alias Chiu Nam, aged 50 years, served the people with patriotic,
religious, commercial, social, educational and other works. He followed Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the revolution while he was a young man.
In 19... he joined the Che-Kong Mason at San Fran-
cisco, and organised the Young Men's Learning Society under the direction of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Later, this society changed its name to Young Men's Alliance, and Mr. Wong became its leader. He then established the "Young China" newspaper to propagate revolutionary works.
Mr. Wong is a christian and is very much interested in religious works. He is a member and committee of the Chamberland Church.
During the Up-rising at Wuchang and Hankow in 1911, Mr. Wong returned to China to serve the country, as accountant for the First Republic Government at Nanking. Because of his revolutionary works, the Peking Government ordered for his arrest in 1915. From 1915 to 1921 he remained at Shanghai and Hongkong and established business there. He was mana- ger for Lee Man Hing Kwok Knitting Co., Ltd. and Wah Yang Knitting Co., Ltd., Chairman of Tung Wah Hospital and Kowloon Y.M.C.A., and director for Lee Heng Steamship Co., and Wing On Insurance Co. From 1923 to 1925 Mr. Wong held various high positions in the Cen- tral Government and in the Kwangtung Provisional Government.
In 1926 Mr. Wong returned to Hongkong and became General Manager for Wing Lok Biscuit and Confectionery Company, Chung Shan Knitting Company and Eng Wah Bank.

Mr. Li Chi Cheung (李芝瑋) was born at Chinghoi, Tung Kong District, Kwangtung. He is a very well educated person. At the age of 14 he left school and started business in Hongkong; opened the firm of Chap Sing Hing, trading with Namhoi district. Being of a very good personality, he made friends wherever he goes. He has never lacked in helping those with whom he come into contact. In 1934 he became head of Chaochow Mutual Development Association, and also Vice-Chairman of the Chaochow Society. At present he is a member of Chaochow Chamber of Commerce. In 1939 when Swatow was lost to the invaders, he formed a relief society for relief work amongst all destitutes and refugees. He contributed and col-
lected large sums for this purpose.

After being graduated from the Nam Mu Middle School, Canton, he served on the staff of the school for more than seventeen years. He came to Hong Kong in 1920 and entered commercial circle establishing the Sing Chow Electric Factory. His mother school is always in his memory, and after the fall of Canton, he and his old school-mates set up again the Nam Mu Middle School in Shum-shui-po, Kowloon. He was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the school.
Mr. Chan is a good social worker, having served as Chairman of the Hong Kong Electri- cal Association, Vice-Chairman of Chinese Manufacturers' Union, Director of the Education Department of the Confucian Association, and Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee of the South China Athletic Association. He is also a devoted supporter to all kinds of patriotic
acts.
He is the father of six children. His elder son, Mr. Chan Tse Sun, graduate of Shun- kan University, and second son, Mr. Chan Tse Yam, graduate of the Sun-Yat-sen University, are both serving the National Government as Engineers in the War Department, Chung-king.

Mr. Lam Shek Ting,(林石騰) of Chaochow District, Kwangtung, aged 32, is the manager of Po Chiu Torchlight factory. He is of very quiet nature and very hard working, and philan- thropic. He is very keen in social affairs. In 1926 he entered the Foong Cheong Sun Factory. He managed the business so well, that the owner of the factory gave him the opportunity to establish the Po Chiu Torchlight Factory in Canton. In 1933, he founded another factory in Hongkong, The Kwok Fah and Sam Kwong bu and
Battery which is now well known
in nearly all British territories, the business turn over being more than $400,000 per year. He
is now head of Kowloon Chamber of Commerce. It is understood, with such success at present, the future holds golden opportunities for him.

He founded, with his friends, the World Drug Co., Ltd., which turned out to be the leading firm of drug business in the Colony with its branches in Kowloon and Canton.
When the Drug Dealers' Association was formed in 1939 he was elected Permanent Hon. Director and Member of the Executive Committee of the Association; a year later, he was
elected Chairman.
Mr. Ko is a helpful promoter in war relief and war chest contributing works, being elected Permanent Hon. President of the Chung Sing Benevolent Society, and again elected President of the Society this year. He offered a big donation to the Building Fund of the Society, when it celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary last year.
He is the father of a happy family with eleven children.

Mr. Sit Gok Seen, aged 36, belongs to the Shun Tak District, Kwangtung Province. Born in a scholastic family,
he received a fine education in his boyhood, and when he came to Hong Kong he joined the St. Paul's College.
In 1919, he, with the help of a few friends, established a primary school in West Point which became prosperous within a short period. Later, he turned to the stage and made himself famous as an actor. Nowadays, he is one of the leading and most famous actor in the Kwangtung stage show.
In 1926, he went to Shanghai and set up his first film career producing a picture entitled "The Romantic Butterfly",
In the following year he married the former Miss Tong Shuet Hing, leading lady of his picture.
Mr. Sit has rendered great works for the progression of the Cantonese stage show and for this reason he had been elected Chairman of the Kwangtung Actors Guild,

Cheuk Fung,(衞卓峯) of Punyi District, Kwangtung Province, is now 52 years
of age, he was at one time very well known as piecegoods merchant, and also as restaurant
owner, he possesses a stevedoring company.
He is manager of the Tung Hing Shirt and Pyjama Factory. When he started these firms there was very little competition, with the
result he amassed a good fortune.
In 1937 he founded the Tai Ping Yeung Knitting Factory, and in 1939, he established the Yau Luen Piece Goods Depot. He is a very energetic
and hardworking person with the result he enjoys a very good reputation.

Wan, (蕭柱雲) aged 28, belongs to the Chung-shan District, Kwangtung Province. He is the son of Mr. Shew Shuk Lim, rice magnate in the Colony. Following his father's foot-step Mr. Shew entered the rice business when he left school. He is now the Manager of three big rice shops--Mow Fung Tai, Sheu Fung Nang and Woo Cheong, holding leading position in the rice business.
He is a generous man in charitable works and a willing supporter in promoting sales of Chinese National Salvation Bonds, and War Relief organization. He serves as Director of the Tung Wah Hospital, Tung Wah Eastern Hospital and Kwong Wah Hospital; Representative of the Rice Merchants' Association to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce; Headmaster of the Rice Merchants Association Free School; Director of the Football Department of the South China Athletic Association; Chairman of the Kit Chee Athletic Association; etc.
He married the former Miss Cheng, having a happy family with four sons.

"Toi Shan" He represented the Chang Hing Coal Mine Co., for the purchase of ships in Australia, made a journey to Russia, Japan, New Zealand, Philippine Is. and the Malay States.

Mr. Kwong Son
Mr. Kwong Son, (鄺燊) aged 42, belongs to the Toi-shan District, Kwangtung Province. He is the son of Mr. Kwong Wah King, prominent merchant of this Colony. He was a student of Diocesan Boys' School, Hong Kong, with a brilliant school record and well commended by
the teachers.
Being far-sighted, he chose building contracting as his business and established Tak Hing & Co., in 1929. He has undertaken many Government constructions such as the Stanley Prison, the new Central Market etc.
