A BILL

An Ordinance for regulating the Pensions of

Officers in the Public Service.

HEREAS it is expedient to amend the law under which pensions may be granted to Officers in the Public Service of the Colony:

It is hereby enacted by the Governor of the Straits Settle- ments with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thercof as follows:--

1. This Ordinance may be cited as "The Pensions Ordinance Short title. 1886."

2. From and after the passing of this Ordinance" The Pensions Repeal. Ordinance 1871" shall be repealed but this repeal shall not affect:---

(a) the past operation of the said Ordinance nor anything

duly done or suffered thereunder; nor

(b) any right privilege obligation or liability acquired

accrued or incurred under the said Ordinance; nor shall this Ordinance apply to any Officer in the Public Ser- vice of the Colony at the date of the passing of this Ordinance who does not within six months after such date give notice in writing to the Colonial Secretary of his wish to come within the provisions of this Ordinance and holds at the date of his retirement from such service the same office which he held ut the date of the passing of this Ordinance but every such Officer's claim to pension shall be dealt with as though this Ordinance had not been passed.

3. There shall be charged on and paid out of the general Pension to be revenues of the Colony all such sums of money as may from charged on time to time be granted by way of pension gratuity or other allowance by the Secretary of State for the Colonies or the Governor in Council in accordance with this Ordinance and with any Regulations made hereunder to persons who have been in the Public Service of the Colony.

4.
