F. 7307/1147/10 of the 30th September about the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs' wish 40 001 1945 appoint Monsieur Egal to the temporary charge of the French Consulate in Hong Kong.
As we have agreed to the re-opening of the United States Consulate General and the appointment of a Chinese Consul General in Hong Kong, it would be difficult to withold a similar concession in this case. Fon our part, therefore, we agree to the interim appointment of Monsieur Egal, providing that the consent of the Military Administration in Hong Kong is obtained and that the Foreign Office is satisfied as to his bonafides, and as to any reciprocity we need in French Indo-China.
I understand that Major Smailes, to whom I am sending a copy of this letter, is reporting the matter by telegram to Hong Kong and asking for the views of the Commander-in-Chief.
Yours sincerely,
G. V. KITSON, ESQ.
