Reference your letter to me of 27th August (No.F 5752/1147/G) about the surrender of Hong Kong, we are telegraphing to
General Gairdner to find out the exact terms in which
General MacArthur has instructed the Japanese commander in Hong Kong to surrender to the British.
2. As regards paragraph 5 of your letter, the necessary instructions to Rear Admiral Harcourt can very well be drafted until the present impasse with the Generalissimo has been solved.
