For GCC from Ride,

Party returned today from abortive visit to Cant on. Original American plan was to take two planes to Hongkong and one to Canton. Before leaving here one Hongkong plane was withdrawn and Liuchow another was taken from us so that we had only one plane for both parties. This meant party took no stores and had to call Canton first. Were not told reason for these changes in plans. (? Para 2). Whole operation was complete fiasco from start to finish. There were no fixed plans and none were adhered to for more than a few hours.

no experienced command as we know it Paynel Scheme was abandoned at last moment and planes landed at White Cloud aerodrome 19 August 1430 without any commns with local Commander except leaflets dropped previous day.
