Your SAC 18854.

Ambassador was instructed ·

on 14th August (See F.0. No.888 to Chungking) to tell Generalissimo at once that we are arranging for despatch of British forces to reoccupy and restore administration of Hong Kong.

2.

Instructions were sent yesterday to C.-in-C. British Facific Fleet to despatch British naval force for initial entry into Hong Kong as early as practicable.

3.

Second force with Australian contingent will follow when, and if, Australian agreement to use of their troops for occupation of Hong Kong has been received.

4.

J.S.M. washington are being kept fully informed and instructed to keep U.S. Chiefs of Staff au fait with our plans and movements.
