The Commodore of the Australian Cruiser squadron here has proposed to Commander of the 7th Fleet that his squadron should lead an expeditionary force for re-occupation of Hong Kong and that I should accompany him to represent His Majesty's Government.

2. I feel sure that His Majesty's Government will already have made all the necessary arrangements and that if Foreign Office representation is required at Hong Kong that will have been provided for too, but I should prefer to be in a position to reply to this invitation under your instructions.
3. I should be grateful for very early instructions.
