Colonial Office,

Downing Street,

S.W.1.

F4008

21st June, 1945.

My dear Sterndale Bennett,

Many thanks for your letter F 3171/1147/G of the 7th of June. I am very sorry to find that your earlier letter F 1543/1147/10 of the 19th March, enclosing a copy of Sir Horace Seymour's letter of the 21st of February, asking for guidance about the future of Hong Kong, had been overlooked.

I think the papers that you propose to send him would most certainly be useful and I have no comments or suggestions to add except that you may like to

include the enclosed copy of a note of guidance to the Colonial Office representative at the San Francisco Conference on policy regarding the future status of Hong Kong.

Yours sincere,

Swant

J.C. Sterndale Bennett, Esq., CMG, MC.
