My dear Gent,
ith reference to our letter F.1545/1147/10 of the 19th March transmitting to the Colonial Office a copy of Sir Horace Seymour's letter No. 203 of the 21st February asking for same guidance about the future of Hong Kong, I am writing to say that we propose to send to Chungking in reply (1) the Colonial Office Note of the 28th February entitled "British Colonial Economic Interests in China" (Far Eastern Economic Sub-Committee paper (45)20), and (2) copies of the letters dated the 27th May, 1943, and the 23rd November, 1944, from the China Association to the Colonial Office also circulated to the Economic Sub-Committee (F.E.(E)(45)4). I may add that we have already sent the Ambassador a copy of the enclosed memorandum prepared for our delegation to San Francisco on the basis of notes originally drafted in consultation with the Colonial Office for General Hurley's visit. We have also told Sir Horace Seymour what the Prime Minister said to General Hurley on that occasion.
Have you any further comments or suggestions to add as to what we should say in our re ly?
Yours sincerely
1
