Swiss Consul-General Shanghai reports that a number of British enterprises there have been taken over by or put under the control of the Japanese and that in some cases British subjects formerly employed in these concerns have been invited to continue their employment.
British Residents Association points out that this would relieve the strain on their relief organisation as these British subjects could keep themselves, but they wish to know if His Majesty's Government object to the acceptance of such employment by British subjects even if it would not contribute to the Japanese war effort.
