Reference your minute (Flag A) about the
proposal to send 2 Canadian Infantry Battalions to Hong Kong, the Canadian Government has now telegraphed its agreement, in principle, to such a reinforcement and is prepared to consider tentative arrangements for the despatch of the Battalions. (Telegrams at Flags B and C).
2.
The Chiefs of Staff consider that this reinforcement should be carried out as early as possible and, if you approve, they propose to make arrangements for the transport of the Canadian Battalions to, and their accommodation at, Hong Kong.
