I have laid before the Lorde Commissionere of His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Davies' letter (luost/5/41) of the 1st August, enclosing a copy of a telegram No.707 fram Hong Kong regarding remittances to Canada.

2. In reply I om directed to request you to inform Lord Moyne that, in view of the fuct that the mejority of the evacueen for whose benefit the remittances are being made have now been in Canada for some time, and having regard to the unsettled position in the Far last generally, My Lords are prepared to concur in the suggestion that remittances should continue to be allowed for the progant. At the exme time My Lords feel th. t this represent" a very considerable concession in eomp rizon ith the tre treint of remittances from other parts o. the sterling srea and they therefore hope that it will be possible (havin regard any definit: commitments into which the Hong Kong authorities may have entered) to confine remittances to those compulsorily evacuated. Recipiente should be warned that much remittances will not be continued once changed circumstances make return to Hong Kong pensible.
