Addressed Governor Hong Kong No. 575 repeated

to Chungking No. 346.

Ordinance.

F2083.

Your despatch No. 483 Immigration Control

Chinese Chargé d'Affaires has expressed to Foreign Office appreciation of Chinese Government for action of Hong Kong Government in waiving necessity under immigration regulations for a visa on Chinese passports. Under instructions from his Government he enquired whether Hong Kong authorities would also be prepared to delete from regulations any reference to the necessity of such a visa as far as Chinese nationals are concerned. Chinese residents in Hong Kong are said to have made strong representations to Chinese Government to this effect.

2. I was not aware of reported change in regulations and would be glad to receive details of steps actually taken as well as your observations generally on the Chinese Government's present request.
