55. Reference para. 5 of A.I.V. 0586/39 of
18th January 1940 in order to safeguard the maintenance of reserve stocks for Hong Kong, dispersal of provision on south side of Hong Kong Island has been considered in view of vulnerability of north side of island. Army are erecting 4 splinter proof shelters each about 20 thousand cubic feet, and 2 similar shelters for Naval reserve sited within 2 miles either side abeam considered essential,
Two such shelters will accommodate about 50% of the reserve of dry provisions the remainder being moved to abess of industrial school when conditions require. Estimated vote 10 cost of each shelter consisting of reinforced concrete and situated well back from the road with an earth traverse in front is £1650. Request very early approval as time required for erection is 5 weeks to 3 months depending on availability of steel reinforcement.
