Extact from War Cabinet Conclusions

1940

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR asked 24 J 181 (40), 25th June, whether the Foreign Secretary was still opposed to the

proposal that white women and children should be

245 evacuated from Hong-Kong. Apart from the direct military advantages, he suggested that action of this kind, showing that we meant to defend our interests in the Far East, would have a steadying effect on Japanese policy.

F. 3475

The War Cabinet:

Invited the Foreign Secretary and the Secretary of State for War to consider this proposal again in the light of the latest developments, and to report on it.
