Dear Gent,

With reference to Andrews' letter 54024/39 of the

21st November and to my reply F 12050/3361/10 of the 2nd

December last on the subject of the indiscreet letter

written by Sir Henry Pollock to President Roosevelt, we

have now heard from our Embassy at Washington that the

Ambassador availed himself of a recent opportunity to speak

informally on the matter to Mr. Summer Welles, the Under

Secretary of State.
