With reference to your letter MI/5/1
of the 16th October about the Banque Belge
pour l'Etranger I enclose copies of
correspondence with the Treasury and
Colonial Office, subsequent to our
telegram No. 929 to Shanghai of September
20th 1939, which shows that the bank was
eventually accepted as non-enemy in
Hong Kong.
2. I suggest therefore, that subject
to any comments by Young of the Treasury,
to whom a copy of this reply is being
sent, you can instruct Broadmead to take
the same line.
