Dear Sir,

I have the honour to inform you that the total

value of the Bank's Notes in Circulation on the 30th June 1940,

amounted to $25353.- (Dollars Twenty-five thousand three

hundred and fifty-three only), as shown in the books of the

Bank.

As security against this issue you hold Dollars 12888.99 (Twelve thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight and cents ninety-nine only) deposited with the Central Bank of China and further our London Office have deposited with the Bank of England, London for account of the under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in London £25000.- (Pounds Sterling Twenty-five thousand only) 3% Conversion Loan 1948/53.

The amount of the Bank's note issue outstanding in Hongkong on the 30th June 1940 was Hongkong $4844,585.- (Hongkong Dollars Four million eight hundred and forty-four thousand five hundred and eighty-five only) against securities as required

under the Hongkong Ordinance authorising the issue.

The paid up capital of the Bank remains unchanged at

£1,050,000.-
