On the evening of 6th October number 30 54041

Private Hunter J. and muaber 3055195 Private iiorrison J. of

Royal Scots deserted to Japanese,

Both men are of good character and close friends.

Japanese local Commander reported that they had been

apprehended and sent to Canton. Efforts are being made to

secure their return. No reason for their desertion known but

Hunter had previously stated in barrack room that he would

like to join Japanese Army or Chinese guerillas and get a gooû

position with either. It is possible that Japanese activities

maybe responsible for these men's desertion and of Indian,

reported in my5634 5th October, but no evidence as yet to

support this.
