OUT FILE
FOREIGN OFFICE, S.V.1.
Dear Andrews
5th September, 1939.
Thank you for your letter of the 29th August about
the ordinance recently passed by the Hong Kong Legislature
to amend the Telecommunications ordinance, 1936.
We feel that this is a matter which must be left to
the decision of the Government of the Colony. If they
are convinced that it is necessary to take such wide
powers in order to seize illicit wireless transmitting
sets, we do not wish to raise any objection to the action
which they have taken.
In accordance with your request I return herewith
the report of the debate on the bill in the Hong Kong
Legislative Council.
N.F.S. Andrews, Esq.
Colonial office.
Yours sincerely.
(Sd.) N. R. RONALD
