Proposed introduction of compulsory military service in Hong Kong.
Encloses copy of despatch of 7th April, 1938 from Hong Kong enclosing draft Bill entitled "An ordinance to make provision with respect to military service" and despatch of 3rd May to Hong Kong, enclosing copies of letters from Admiralty, War Office and Air Ministry which show that it is recommended that reserve which will be made available by adoption of policy proposed should be regarded as providing men availble for allocation not only to military volunteer force but also to supplement local naval and air resources of the Colony, and indicating certain drafting amendments to be made in draft Ordinance.
