Proposed release of certain Chinese soldiers interned
at Hong Kong.
Enclose copy of Hong Kong telegram No.116 of 4th April (repeated Shanghai 51, Tokyo 36, Canton 39), Governor verbally informed Japanese Consul-General that he proposed releasing the Chinese interned soldiers who are quite incapable of further military service owing to disease or other disability. Consul- General replied that he wished to inform his Govern- ment to which Governor raised no objection. Does not contemplate taking action until sufficient time has elapsed for objections to be raised by Colonial Office and others concerned.
