Chinese proposals for joint action in Far East.

Refers to Foreign Office despatch No.892 of 14th April (F 3024/2882/10). Reports verbal representations to French authorities who considered that proposal for bringing United States of America into matter was of value but that approach should first be made by Chinese Government. M.Chauvel considered it well that His Majesty's Government had not returned a definite negative to Chinese proposals and enquired whether cutting losses" included British concessions and Hong Kong. Mr. Campbell replied that it would include anything lost in course of hostilities and in event of grave situation in Europe.
