notification to Japanese of particulars of British property].

If you can confirm that procedure followed by the United

States Government is as reported by Sir R. Craigie, and that

French Government follow similar procedure, I agree that lis

Majesty's Consuls in China should in future furnish full

particulars of British property officially to their Japanese

colleagues.

2. It should, however, be made clear to Japanese that

such notifications in no way relieve them of their responsibilities

in respect of British property.
