Situation report. Estimate strength Japanese troops
on frontier now 5000 with artillery and armoured cars. No
unusual activity. Japanese attitude remains friendly but their
dispositions are such that Japanese interests clearly lie in our
territory and not with guerillas. After informing Japanese work
commenced dismantling of frontier bridges. ilovements of guns and
stores from mainland to island now nearing completion. Coast
defences fully manned. No encouragement yet given British
women and children to leave.
