Your Excellency,
have the honour to acknowledge the
receipt of Your Excellency's note No. 30 of the
23rd February, in which you were good enough to
express the profound regret of the Japanese
Government for the incident in which bombs were
dropped by Japanese aircraft within the Hongkong
Leased Territory on February 21st, to offer com-
pensation for damages, and to assure me that
disciplinary measures will be taken against those
at fault and steps taken to ensure that such an
incident will not recur.
Under instructions from His Majesty's
Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs
I am glad to inform your Excellency that his
Majesty's Government regard the incident as having
been settled on these terms.
I avail myself of this opportunity to
renew to Your Excellency the assurance of my highest
con sideration.
His Excellency
Mr. Hachiro Arita,
His Imperial Japanese Majesty's
Minister for Foreign Affairs.
