CHINESE ACCUSATION AGAINST BRITISH

ALLEGED AID FOR AGENTS

OF KUOMINTANG

FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT

HONGKONG, Jan. 13

The Southern Daily News from Canton to-day published a report alleging that British authorities in Hongkong have been giving succour to Chinese Nationalist agents who have been crossing into China, where they have committed acts of sabotage and distri- buted reactionary leaflets. One of the leaders of this activity is said to be a former Kuomintang police chief of a district on the Chinese side of the border.

The incidents mentioned mostly date from last September, October, and November. One allegation is that searchlights used by the Hongkong police on the border have been of assistance to bandits in firing on Com- munist sentries. The searchlights, of course, offer equal aid to Communist border patrols, but this is not mentioned.

"

For months there has been no trouble on the Hongkong-Chinese border. Although the Communists have refused any official liaison over border control, a roughly similar system of travel permits on both sides has gradually brought about an acceptable modus vivendi. The reason for the present protest is no doubt the action of the Hongkong Government last. week in deporting to China a group of film writers and artists, who were believed to be organizing Communist groups in the film industry and intellectual circles.
