"We shall return and the day is not too distant," echoed actor Liu Chiung. He charged that Hong Kong had become a “haven for re- actionaries" and "no place for law abiding citizens with patriotic spirit."

"Do not be afraid of British persecution," actress Ti Fan told the Hong Kong Chinese. "The 560,- 000,000 people of China are behind, you."

Actor Shu Shih and movie work- er Mao Kuo Liang, the only one of the group who spoke in Cantonese, advanced the same line.

Shu Shih called on the Peiping Government to take "effective measures" and warned the British. to beware of the "iron fist of the people of China."

This propaganda barrage was. preceded earlier today by two de- velopments related to Hong Kong's internal security:

1. The Hong Kong Government

promulgated an order in council' scheduled to pave the way grad- ually to the resettlement of about 300,000 Chinese squatters. Recently the Communists have been taking an especially lively interest in the squatters' prob- lem here.

2. Meanwhile, thirty-eight repre- sentatives of the local Chinese trade unions called on Labor Commissioner B. C. K. Hawkins to discuss the questions of union recognition. Mr. Hawkins called the meeting to an end when the trolley workers' representative accused him of violating the colony's labor laws.

The old Left-Wing trolley work- rs union lost its standing follow ing a strike that was suppressed by police action about two years ago. All indications are that the Communists are now seeking to regain their previous influence jamong the transport workers by pressing the issue of collective bargaining.

Mr. Churchill's visit to the United States and the increasing Communist agitation on Hong Kong have been accompanied by A striking change in the editorial line of the Far Eastern Economic Review which is sponsored by Buch British commercial stalwarts as the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank.

The publication added: "Taipei [the capital of the Chiang regime in Formosa] may have a future that depends on the de- velopment of international events this year, and later."
