HE Chinese Communist Foreign Ministry in Pekin issued a statement yesterday accusing the British in Hong Kong of open provocations against Communis China, said Pekin radio.

The incidents they alleged in- cluded "persecution of patriotic Chinese in Hong Kong and imaginary incidents on the Sino- British border.

The statement said: The Foreign Ministry demands that the Hong Kong Government cease its provocative actions, otherwise it must bear the full responsibility for the conse- quences arising from these atrocities."
The radio said: Communist organisations in Pekin had jointly accused the British and U.S. authorities of trying to use Hong Kong as
their base of aggression against China.
