BRITISH PERSECUTION IN HONGKONG CONTINUES; FIVE MORE DEPORTATIONS.
Canton, January 23 (NCNA) - Five more Chinese in Hongkong have been illegally arrested and deported by the British Goverment of Hongkong. They are Pai Chen and Chiang Wei, cinema and art workers; Hsien Pei-ling, Chairman, and Yao Chien, Secretary of the Kowloon branch of the Hongkong-Kowloon Textile Workers' Union; and Chang Shen, representative of the refugees in the fire-ravaged area of Tungtou village in Kowloon.
Another representative of the distressed persons in Tungtou village, Feng Chin, was siezed at his home on January 16 by plian-clothes detectives of the British Government of Hongkong and there is still no news of his whereabouts.
Chinese residents in Hongkong and Kowloon have voiced serious indignation against the series of persecutions of Chinese people. Representatives were sent to the Police Department of the British Government of Hongkong by 40 trade unions affiliated to the Hongkong-Kowloon Trade Union Federation. They vigorously presented the attitude of the Hongkong-Kowloon workers towards the recent frenzied persecutions of Chinese people. They demanded that the Hongkong Government immediately cease its persecution of workers and effectively guarantee their personal safety.
In a protest statement, all the distressed persons of Tungtou village said: "The British authorities in Hongkong think that they can hide their improper handling of the refugee problem by high-handed persecution of us. On the contrary, the more they persecute, the clearer the public will understand. Today in Hongkong, exactly who is sympathetic towards the distressed persons and who is persecuting them? Facts prove that the Chinese people in Hongkong and throughout the country are all supporting us, and giving us relief. It is the British Government of Hongkong which not only does not help us but endlessly persecutes us, so much so that we can find no way out!"
Newspapers such as Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Pao in Hongkong are receiving many letters from readers condemning the atrocities of the British Government in Hongkong and extending sympathy to their persecuted countrymen.
