Rockland Point. If, as this paragraph suggests, it has been extended to Smith's Winkel Bay, this should be shown on the map which accompanies the next revision of the Defence Scheme.

The meaning of the remark in the final line of this paragraph to the effect that "except (a), (b), and (c) all approaches converge at Redhill," is not very clear.

26. Page 70.-In the Table showing distribution of troops on this page, four 7-pr. R.M.L. guns are allotted to the Diamond Fields Artillery. In paragraph 2 on page 81 their armament is stated to be three of these guns.

27. Page 79, top paragraph 3.-The meaning of the second sentence of this paragraph is somewhat obscure.

28. Page 79, paragraph 5.-The last four words of this paragraph are scarcely

necessary.

29. Page 82, paragraph 5.-In the orders to many of the Colonial Corps the officer in command of the advanced party is told to report himself on arrival to "the officer representing Railway Staff, who will instruct him where to draw small-arm ammuni- tion and equipment." The only officer previously referred to under this title appears on page 11 as a member of the Head-quarter Staff. If the duties of this officer are to be deduced from his title it is difficult to understand why he should be given the work of issuing instructions with regard to drawing small-arm ammunition and equipment, which properly belongs to the Staff Officer of that command to which the unit in question is allotted

30. Page 91 (A).-The Colonial Defence Committee look upon it as most important that the Harbour Traffic Regulations, worked out in detail, should be embodied in the revision of the Defence Scheme to December 1898.
