CHAPTER II.

11. Page 15, paragraph 2.-The words "who will be Fire Commander” should be substituted for "in command" in the second line of this paragraph.
12. Page 16.—A column and line of Totals might conveniently be added to the Distribution Table.
CHAPTER III.
13. Page 21 (4).—The last sentence of this section states that about 30 men will be detailed as look-out men. The number given in the Distribution Table on p. 16 and on p. 21 (B), paragraph 1, is 46.
14. Page 23.-The food supply of St. Helena appears now to be well secured except in one important respect. In the event of war breaking out in the months of January, February or March, when local stocks of flour are at their lowest, it would be necessary that 10,000 lb. of this material should be thrown into the island at once. The Colonial Defence Committee suggest, for the consideration of the War Office, that this could most expe- ditiously and conveniently be done by an arrangement with the Government of the Cape Colony, by which the requisite quantity of flour would, without further request, be at once shipped from the Cape on first alarm of war during these months.
15. Page 23.-In the column "Reserve maintained," 8,000 lb. of pre- served meat are entered. It is understood that the reserve has been settled at 6,000 lb. (53/St. Helena/2943).
16. Page 27 (D). The approved chain of artillery command may con- veniently be entered under the "Action of Officer Commanding Royal Artillery."
17. Page 31, Table 4.-The note as to 100 stand of arms required for the Militia being ordered to England should be omitted (57/St. Helena/1778).
18. Page 31, Table 4.-No arrangements appear to have been made for the supply of uniform to the Militia which is to be raised when war is anticipated. The Colonial Defence Committee consider that possibly a less complete equipment than that provided for in this Table may suffice for their requirements, and to ensure their recognition as belligerents by any hostile power. The Committee are further enquiring into this matter.
M. NATHAN, Secretary.
