4. Page 6, paragraph 7. The proposed new signal station at the south- west corner of the island would be a very desirable addition to the look-out system.

5. Page 6 (C). The Colonial Defence Committee are informed that a proposal to substitute Q.F. guns for the existing three 7-in. R.M.L. guns at Munden's Point Battery is now under consideration by the War Office.

The additional machine-gun proposed seems unnecessary in view of the fact that six machine-guns, allotted to general defence, are already at the station, and that it lies at the discretion of Officer Commanding Troops to use them as he may think necessary.

6. Page 6 (D). The Colonial Defence Committee are unable to concur in any recommendation for electric lights for purposes which are not directly of a defensive nature. The "exercise of proper supervision of the harbour does not come under this head, but is really police duty. Lights to cover an examination anchorage, however, are admissible, provided that they are so installed as to assist the defence by facilitating the aiming of the battery guns at hostile intruders. If the proposed electric installation at Munden's Point satisfies these conditions, the recommendation is concurred in. A search-light would appear most suited to the particular circumstances of the case.

7. Page 6 (E). In view of the fairly strong gun defence already existing and of the outstanding armament requirements of other more important stations, the Colonial Defence Committee are unable to recommend the proposal for mounting two 9.2-in. B.L. in lieu of 9-in R.M.L. guns.

(Signed) W. PEACOCKE, Secretary,

Colonial Defence Committee.
