9. Wastage Rates.

Our basie assumption is that when programmes are complete, wastage should suffice to destroy 700 aircraft per month, for which purpose 350,000 rounds are required per month. This must be modified at various periods of the growth of the defences, when fewer guns are available. With fewer guns the individual gun is likely to fire more, as the interference factor i.e. raids driven off, is likely to be less. What this factor is is somewhat conjectural. It will however be convenient to accept the C.I.D. figures for A.D.G.B. Thus, when the numbers of guns in A.D.G.B. was approximately doubled it was agreed that the ammunition held should be reduced by about 25%. It follows that in the early stage of development of the defences a somewhat higher wastage per gun should be accepted.

The gun situation in A.D.G.B. and B..F., as far as can be

foreseen, is as follows :-

Accepting the total monthly wastage for the complete

programme as 350,000 it will be reasonable to add weighting factors to our proportionate requirements as follows:-

The above considerations can now be applied to determine

reasonably exact figures of wastage requirements.

(i).

2 + 6 to Z + 12.

Average of 42% of programme complete.

1.e. monthly requirements in wastage. 42% of 350,000 plus 33%

147,000+ 49,000 = 196,000,

Total for period

1,176,000.

(ii).

Z + 12 to Z + 18.

(iii).

Average of 63% of programme completed.

i.e. monthly requirements in wastage = 63% of 350,000 + 25%

= 275,000

Total for period = 1,650,000.

Z + 18 to Z + 24.

Average of 85% of programme completed.

i.e, monthly requirements in wastage = 85% of 350,000 + 121%

= 3,350,000 335.000

Total for period 3,010,000

Subdividing the above totals/...
