DEPLOYMENT OF M.N.B.D.0.(ONE).
Memorandum by the Vice Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chiefs of Staff at their 319th Meeting directed that the R. M. Group, M. N.B.D.O. should reform in the Middle East.

At their 419th Meeting, the Chiefs of Staff decided that in view of the situation in the Far East, the existing personnel of the M. N. B.D.), A.A. Brigade should be re-organised into a special brigade placed at the disposal of G.0.C.-in-C., India, and prepared for despatch to Ceylon.

At their 32nd Meeting, the Chiefs of Staff directed that this formation should be despatched to Ceylon when ready (i.e. about 5th January).

The present position as regards M.N.B.D.O.I is:-
(a) The re-organised A. A. Brigade is about to sail
for Ceylon with equipments from Middle East.
(b) In Ceylon there is the majority of the personnel of the Coast Defence Brigade and about half the personnel and material of the Landing and Maintenance Unit. C.-in-C., East Indies has been instructed to place the necessary personnel of this unit at the disposal of G.0.C.-in-C., India, to assist the Army in the rapid installation of the coast defences at Diego Garcia (C.-in-C., East Indies 1356z/17 and Admiralty 2248A/25 are attached at Annex I).
(c) In the Middle East there is the 11th R. M.
Battalion the majority of the Headquarters Unit; the 11th R. M. Searchlight Regiment deployed in action; the Signals Company deployed in acti a nucleus of the Coast Defence Brigade with m of the equipment for two 6" Batteries; part of the Landing and Maintenance Groups.
