calibre

1,000 Thompson Sub-Machine guns have been sent. 250 captured light machine guns with 1,500 rounds each have been sent from Middle rst.

No machine guns of this calibre are manufactured in U.K. or U.S.A. No capacity could be made available in either country without seriously interfering with our own i.G. production for aircraft and no deliveries could in any case mature for many months.

Only British equivalent is the Bren Gun. These could only be supplied at the expense of our own equipment.

Our present deficiencies in Brens are some 17,000 at Home.

Light Automatics could probably be obtained from U.S.l. in time.
