5. Meetings held on 8th and 9th January under Lord Lloyd's Chairmanship resulted in the following aotion being taken :

(a) The War Office have agreed to the

transmission by air over enemy territory of some 20,000 accumulated EF.M. messages; these have now been despatched and the remainder of the accumulation has been worked off.

(b) Arrangements have been made that in

future these messages which include the unit address may be sent by wireless, the address being encoded before despatch in a simple four letter code, particulars of watch have been sent in cipher to G.H.Q., Middle East.

(c) Sir Edward Wilshaw has agreed to

introduce the E.F.M. service in

the homeward direction with effect from 27th January.

(a) The Secretary of State for War has

sent a personal telegram to

General Wavell in reply to his representations, setting out the measures which have been taken to effect improvements.
