Further instructions as to the line of action which they should adopt would be sent when the result of this approach was known.

It would also scom desirable that the Government of the U.S. A. should again be asked to send representatives to Singapore to take part in the conversations there. Since they have agreed to technical discussions in this country, there seems no good reason why they should not also agree to similar discussions in the Far East. It is suggested that the Chiefs of Staff might ask the Foreign Office to press the Americans on this point.
