JAMES H. INNES,
The Commander-in-chief,
Pacific.
Esquimalt Yard, July 29, 1878.
(Signed)
Naval Storekeeper, in charge of Ordnance Stores.
Inclosure 3 in No. 341.
Sir,
"Shah," at Esquimalt, July 29, 1878. WITH reference to your requisition for ordnance stores dated the 24th instant, my attention has been drawn by the Naval Storekeeper to the heading of the requisition which states it be "for the service of the Imperial Government.'
2. I beg to point out this apparent mistake (which I have caused to be corrected on the requisition), as it should be clearly understood that all guns and ordnance stores supplied to you from the Naval Department are for the service of the Dominion Govern- ment, who, on receipt of such guns and stores becomes responsible for their return to the Naval Department, or for repayment of their value, should the Imperial and Dominion authorities decide upon their being permanently transferred to the Dominion.
Lieutenant-Colonel Houghton,
I have, &c.
(Signed)
A. F. R. DE HORSEY, Rear-Admiral and Commander-in-chief in the Pacific.
Deputy Adjutant-General, Victoria.
