6. The Cabinet took note of a Memorandum by the
Minister of Labour (Paper C..-274 (28)) on the
subject of the Recent Trend of Unemployment Figures,
in which he stated that any improvement in the
general condition of employment in the near future
was likely to be spasmodic in character and uneven
in its effects on different industries, although
the present position was distinctly less unsatis-
factory than would have appeare likely at the
beginning of August last. Attached to the Memorandum
was a Table in which the course of the live register
figures was shown since the end of March, 1928,
with corresponding figures for the four previous
years.
