MIGRATION.

The Proposed Reservation of Areas in Canada.

9. In regard to a decision of the Cabinet at

the Meeting referred to in the margin, that the

representative of the British Government should

be authorised to enter into negotiations with the

Canadian authorities with a view to securing the

reservation in certain undeveloped districts of

areas of land for British settlers, the Cabinet

agreed

That their intention was that the British representative should have power to explore and discuss schemes of this kind but not to settle them. The results of his discussions should be ad referendum to the Cabinet, and His Majesty's Government must not be committed in any way by these discus- sions.
