5. The Cabinet had before them a Memorandum
by the First Commissioner of Works (Paper C.P.-
202 (28)) covering a draft of a Bill to transfer
to the Westminster City Council the roads and
pavements in Parliament Square.
The Prime Minister entered a caveat that
the time of Parliament during the present Session
was very much taken up and he doubted if it would
be possible to give any facilities to the Parlia-
ment Square and Other Streets Bill.
The Cabinet agreed, subject to the Prime
Minister's warning,
To approve the Parliament Square and Other Streets Bill, and that the First Commissioner of Works should place himself in touch with the Chief Whip in order to ascertain whether some opportunity could be found to pass what was likely to be an uncontroversial measure.
