THE STABILISATION OF EASTER BILL.

(Previous

Reference: Cabinet 7 (28). Con- clusion 8.)

ER.

39(34)7.

7.The Cabinet had before them a Bill, intro- duced by a Private Member (Captain Bourne) entitled The Baster (late Stabilisation of

Easter) Bill", the object of which was to fix

the date of Easter Day. The Pill was down for

Report and Third Reading.

The Cabinet were informed that, from the

point of view of meteorological statistics, the

date proposed for the fixed Easter did not appear

so favourable as the normal variable Easter.

The Cabinet were also informed that the

ecclesiastical authorities concerned had been

consulted. The Archbishop of Canterbury had

approached Cardinal Bourne, who had himself

undertaken to approach the Pope of Rome.

The Cabinet agreed

That the Home Secretary should have authority to support the Stabilisation of Baster Bill.
