12. Immediately on an alarm being given at night all lights and fires are to be at once extinguished, and complete silence is to be maintained.

For the purpose of extinguishing fires quantities of earth are to be kept close at hand.

1. He will arrange with the C.O.O. as to the time of issue of armament, gun ammunition, and Artillery stores, &c., from Ordnance Stores.

2. He will at once communicate with the O.C. A.S.C. as to the hour the necessary coolies and other transport is to be provided for moving the various movable armament into their respective positions.

3. He will arrange with the C.R.E. as to the preparation of the howitzer plat- forms at Mount Kellet, and any necessary works in connection with the other gun positions, &c.

4. He will take immediate steps, in conjunction with the C.O.O., for providing and issuing to all Chinese employed in any military capacity in the batteries the approved distinctive khaki blouse.

1. He will issue instructions at once that all telephones are kept open day and night.

2. He will issue the necessary instructions as to the laying of the mine-fields. 3. He will at once place himself in communication with the C.O.O. to arrange a convenient time for drawing the requisite Engineer stores, working tools, &c.

4. He will place himself in communication with the O.C. A.S.C. to settle details as to coolies, or land or water transport required.

5. He will direct the responsible R.E. officers to at once place themselves in com- munication with the O.C.R.A. and Officers Commanding Sections as to the necessary R.E. work connected with howitzer positions, gun emplacements, blockhouses, entrenchments, &c.

6. He will obtain from the D.A.A.G. (a) a list of the R.E. works as to the order of carrying out the same, and their importance.

1. Immediately on the order to mobilize he will at once proceed to put in force the prearranged plan for obtaining the necessary coolie and water transport.

2. All transport is to be provided without requisition, and in the order laid down in the instructions for Commanding Officers.

3. He will proceed with the enrolment of the Coolie Corps.
