Coolies for carrying the dhoolies and stretchers mentioned in the Schedule of Equipment will be indented for as required.
Modes of Attack.--The attack to be expected is in the form of a landing in and near Kellett Bay, covered by fire from ships.
The ships would, according to circumstances, be exposed to the fire of the three howitzers at Pokfulum (H1) and to the six near Aberdeen and Deep Water Bay (H2) and (H 3), the latter a distant fire.
Co-operation with the defence might also be expected from the navy.
If, in spite of these, a landing is attempted, the infantry manning the works in first line should endeavour to prevent it.
Co-operation with the troops of Section IV should also be given by firing across Taihowan Bay in the event of a landing being attempted there.
If an overwhelming fire is brought to bear from the covering ships, the troops will retire on the second line, where they would be largely reinforced by infantry and artillery, and would be to a great extent out of the fire of the ships' guns.
Additional Works.-The works to be executed by the troops are :—
1. Entrenchments for infantry and guns to command the bays at easy range in spots which are indicated.
2. Communications to and between these positions.
A rough estimate of the strength of working parties and of the time for executing the works is as follows:-
1st and 2nd Days.
R.E., 5 N.C.O.'s and men.
Entrenchments and epaulments.. {Infantry, 1 officer and 60 N.C.O.'s and men.
Communications
3rd Day. Same party.
The works of the second line, as indicated on the map, viz., the three block-houses and entrenchments and epaulments connected with them, will be erected by contract labour, under the supervision of the Royal Engineers of the section, simultaneously with the works of the first line by the troops.
Mat-sheds will also be built by contract, and are estimated to take about ten days.
Engineer District. This section is, with Sections IV, VI, and VII, in B Engineer district, under the general Engineer supervision of Captain McCarthy, R.E.
Tools.-The tools required are enumerated in Schedule XVIII (5), and will be issued with the camp equipment.
