The head-quarters of the section will be at the old French Sanitarium. A large detachment will be placed near the cemeteries to command at easy range the two bays in which landings might be effected. A small detachment (about twelve men) will be placed near the police station to communicate with Section IV, and to cover the reservoir and the road which ascends by it.

Three visual signalling points are located in this section :-

(a.) On south-west spur of High West.

(b.) On the spurs of Mount Kellett just above the sectional head-quarters. (c.) On the south-west spur of Mount Kellett.

These posts will be protected by block-houses (B 2, B 3, and B 4), around which will be the entrenchments, which, with the block-houses, will form the second line.

Method of Quartering. The troops will all be encamped in the grounds of the old French Sanitarium.

Camp Equipment and Stores.-The camp equipment, stores, and tools required for use in this section are enumerated in the annexed Schedules XVII (5) and XVIII (5). All the articles are kept separate by the S.O.S.O., ready for immediate issue, and on mobilization will be sent straight to the head-quarters of the section by means of transport to be provided by the O.C.A.S.C., without requisition. The Section Commander will receive the stores, and will sign the customary receipt vouchers.

Reinforcement in case of Attack.—If attacked, the infantry company from No. VI Section would be the first reinforcement available, and the infantry and artillery and machine-guns from the Reserve could in a very short time be brought up by Victoria Gap and by the main road by Belcher's, together with the movable armament from Belcher's by the latter road.

Communications.-This section has an excellent main road for communica- tion with No. IV Section on its right, No. VI Section on its left, and with the Victoria Reserve. It has also a good road of communication with the Victoria Reserve and Sections VI and VII ascending the hill by the reservoir to Victoria Gap.

There are also several lanes and paths available for communication between the head-quarters and the several detachments in front, and other by- paths, which would have to be improved, giving communication to and between the different portions of the second line.

The visual signal stations have been already described, and there is tele- phonic communication with Victoria from the police station at Pokfulum.

Method of Supply: Small-arms Ammunition.--On marching out, all ranks carry in their pouches 100 rounds per Lee-Metford rifle. An additional 100 rounds per rifle is dispatched by hired transport to the section as a first reserve. This reserve should always be kept up, and requisitions on the Ordnance Store Department should be furnished accordingly.

Food. Rations will be issued daily from the A.S.C. head-quarters at 4 A.M., and will be escorted to the section by parties furnished from the Victoria Reserve.

Water. Obtained from the Pokfulum Reservoir and hill-side streams. Transport.-There should be little transport required within the section itself. In the event of any being required, instruction should be sent to the O.C.A.S.C., Victoria Reserve.

Depots. All stores will be accumulated at the head-quarters of the section.

Medical Services and Dressing Stations.—The Schedule of Troops, &c., shows the number of the Medical Staff allotted to the section, and the Schedule of Camp Equipment indicates the hospital equipment furnished for the two dressing stations which will be established at the old Sanitarium and the cemetery near the sea, for each of which a ward coolie will be supplied.

In addition, the following surgical and medical equipment will be furnished to the Section Commander by the P.M.O., viz. :——

Field companion and water-bottle

Field tourniquets

First field dressings Medical comforts as required
