2. MANNER OF OBTAINING SUPPLIES.

Pork, Fresh and Dried.-About 400,000 rations fresh and dried pork can be obtained in Hong Kong and the immediate vicinity. The quantity sufficient for two months' supply could be obtained in 14 days from Fakhoi, Holhow, and Shanghae.

Fish. A daily and almost inexhaustible supply of fresh fish arrives in

Hong Kong, and would in all probability continue.

Fish, Dried.About 1,000,000 rations could be purchased in Hong Kong;

the remainder obtainable from Macao and neighbourhood.

Rice, Salt, Oil, Fuel-Obtainable ou the spot without difficulty.

Tea.-One month's rations procurable at short notice. A further supply

procurable in three weeks from Shanghae and Foochow.

Vegetables, Fresh and Salted.-Fresh vegetables for Chinese could not be depended on in large quantities; but one month's reserve of salted vegetables, which are in general use amongst the Chinese, can be procured at short notice.

3. LOCAL RESOURCES AVAILABLE IN CASE OF NECESSITY.

With the command of the sea, and China friendly, all kinds of Chinese

supplies could be obtained in sufficient quantities.

4. LENGTH OF TIME THE STATION COULD HOLD OUT.
